Sometimes as a politician it is difficult to get the opinion of everyone you represent. As a rep you are responsible for making decisions that are good for the people and are in their best interest. However, that doesn’t mean that it’s always easy to gauge the difference between both. The truth is that there are many reps that don’t know what their people want beyond the few cards, letters, and phone calls they receive each month.
These days the ability to effectively gauge what the voters want has become easy and efficient. There no longer is a need for the rep to have to guess at what their voters want. All they have to do is utilize the Internet. It’s become more than just a way to get your basic encyclopedic information. It’s about getting the pulse of the people in your area and being able to make the best decision.
For instance, if you are thinking about an upcoming vote on some school funding that’s coming up, but it could mean a raise in the property taxes, you might have to get an idea for what the voters want. The Internet is a great way to gauge the way the voters are feeling as it comes to the tax increase. You can start by instituting a online voting poll where users can vote on the poll for you. If it’s split then you should use your better judgement. If it’s not then you might have to consider the pros and the cons.
There are a number of things you can do. Simply go onto the message boards and see what they are saying. You aren’t necessarily in their to do what they say but you are in there to speak on their behalf. Online voting presents you with a unique opportunity to do that. See what the people think and make the best possible choice.
