Democracy Through The Internet

One could argue that the Internet has become one of the best ways to spread information and link together the entire world that we have ever known. The Internet has an ability to infiltrate and influence every culture and every country in the world. It has the power to spread ideas to places where the governments in the past have been able to keep their peoples in ignorance and poverty. The world that kept people in those kinds of conditions is fast crumbling because of the power and potency and audacity of the Internet. Interestingly the Internet is most appealing to the youth of the world and these are our future leaders. They will be much more globally minded and interconnected when they begin to rule their nations because of their experience on the Internet. They will have been exposed to a multitude of ideas, ways of living, languages, cultures, mores, etc, that their parents or grandparents could not have even imagined. Because of this exposure, it is assumed that the way in which they lead their nations will be significantly different than anything we have seen in the past.

No one can predict just what exactly will happen as these youth come of age, as they come to power, but no one would argue against the fact that there will be a difference in how they govern. The Internet is unstoppable by those who would like to stop it, censorship can only last so long and there will always be an underground, a group of people who figure out ways around censorship and show others how to as well.

We see nations like China and North Korea trying to keep the Internet ‘safe’ and to keep certain ideas from coming into their countries, but for better or worse the Internet is like water, it will seep through the cracks and its power will be vast.
